The Rhode Island School of Design is the earliest independent art and design college in the United States. The college implements a credit system, mainly for undergraduate and postgraduate education, with its students coming from more than 50 countries worldwide. It is a top-ranking international design college. The college’s educational philosophy is: “Committed to the cultivation of design and art talents. Enhancing public art education, and the level of commerce and products.”
Of particular note is the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, a university art museum with over 80,000 collections, ranging from ancient Greek and Roman sculptures to French Impressionist paintings, from ancient Chinese colored pottery and stone carvings to modern art, and from clothing textiles, glass, ceramics to furniture, all displayed in 45 galleries in a three-story building, becoming a history of art development from ancient times to the 21st century. Students from all majors of the college can study and research in the museum, and the museum also becomes an important open learning education center through various special exhibitions, lectures, and study classes.
